Dr. Cohen is a licensed clinical
psychologist. He received his Ph.D. in 1975 and has been in private practice
since 1977 specializing in trauma. Dr. Cohen is a board certified expert in
traumatic stress and a Diplomate, American Academy of Experts in Traumatic
Stress. In addition, he is a Certified EMDR practitioner.
Dr. Cohen has
appeared on the MacNeil/Lehrer News Hour as a result of his work with survivors
of the Northridge earthquake of 1994 and was the subject of a feature story in
Woman's World magazine covering his work with victims of traumatic stress. He
has been a guest on Fox Sports Network's National Sports Report, once as part
of a feature story regarding the sudden death of Korey Stringer, a professional
football player, its impact on his teammates, and the implications of values
held by professional athletes. He also appeared on the show following the
September 11 attack on America.
In addition to working extensively
with all aspects of traumatic stress, including survivors of childhood
physical, sexual and emotional abuse and neglect, he works with people with
sexual addiction and dysfunction, depression, anxiety, phobia, panic,
relationship and self-esteem issues. He also works with professional and
amateur athletes, members of the performing and visual arts community and
business executives regarding blocks to peak performance.
Memberships
include the American Psychological Association, Divisions of Trauma,
Psychopharmacology and Psychotherapy, the California Psychological Association,
EMDR International Association and American Academy of Experts in Traumatic
Stress. |
